Treasures of the country of my Jau (2)

.

Batik is the traditional fabric of Java, although it has its own specific counterparts in the other islands of Indonesia.
The technique consists in using wax to elaborate the patterns before dyeing the fabric of cotton or silk in different colours and afterwards gradually removing the wax. The design and colours have symbolic meanings connected to Hinduism and Royalty, being the most highly rated indigo, brownish and white.
Nowadays, there are many types of batik, with figures, colours and patterns for all tastes. Yet, the traditional batik still gives a touch of nobility to those special few who are worthy of its sacred colours.
