Love is the Law

The First Kiss de William-Adolphe Bouguereau (século XIX).

The things I do for Love,
Either those of white light,
Or those of dark might,
I will never regret.
The things I do for Love,
Love will never forget.
The things I do for Love,
To Hell go and bargain with the Devil
To protect my beloved from evil.
To jump and fall from grace
Just to have a smile upon his face.
The things I do for Love,
With the Almighty have a deal
To confirm what I feel:
My life for his happiness,
Though he couldn’t care less...
I will never regret,
The things I do for Love,
Love will never forget.
The things I do for Love
Are never to be seen,
No one knows where I have been,
Out in the cold and in the pouring rain,
To keep him warm, cosy and sane.
The things I do for Love,
Walk the skies, sail the seas, climb the mountains,
Till my days are spent and nothing else remains
Of this world and life transitory
And Eternity is telling the story.
The things I do for Love
Ask for nothing in return,
For gratitude doesn’t burn
As do the flames of passion,
A fire without remission;
Except Love pure and true,
My beloved, nothing else will do.
The things I do for Love,
I will never regret,
The things I do for Love,
Love will never forget.
Love, the greatest of powers,
Holds my beloved in the darkest hours,
From the claws of fear has him free,
And only then his eyes truly see
The things he does for loving me.
And in the brightest hours, when happy he does shine,
My doings he cherishes and abides by the law divine.
The things I do for Love,
I will never regret,
The things I do for Love,
Love will never forget.
