The Lock of Hair

.
An absolutely smashing song by the grand Syd Barrett, not only founder of Pink Floyd, but Pink Floyd himself. The lovely poem is by James Joyce, from Chamber Music.
Lean out your window, golden hair
I heard you singing in the midnight air
My book is closed, I read no more
Watching the fire dance, on the floor
I've left my book, I've left my room
For I heard you singing through the gloom
Singing and singing, a merry air
Lean out the window, golden hair...

People have no idea how important hair can be. It is still a great proof of appreciation to give a lock of one's hair to someone. There are also fetishists who collect anything from those they're obsessed with, including hair. Hair is also used in witchcraft; that's why in some societies no one leaves hair behind when they go to the hairdressers. It's also a sign of mourning since Ancient Greece to shave the head completely. And, nowadays, hair has many scientific uses, above all those connected with DNA.
I've got my lovely childhood braids for sale. Anyone is interested?

P.S. May 2012: Be free of those hair braids, many people told me throughout the years. Hardly did I ever imagined how I would indeed be free of them. Alas!!!
