Year of the Rat/Mouse

,
It’s the exact time when the Chinese New Year starts. A new cycle begins with the coming of the first of the Twelve Signs, the Rat/Mouse, and also the first of the Nine Astral Forces, AF 1. Both the Sign and the Force are connected to the North, the masculine cold winter, which favours concentration. This year’s Rat/Mouse is of the Earth, the element that gives main importance to the material world they so much care about. It’s known as “Rat in the warehouse”, the right place for them to have plenty to supply their needs, the needs of their loved ones and to provide for the future. It’s also of the Yang Polarity, which will speed up into action the already very fast Mouse.
.
This is one of my favourite Chinese signs (Alexander, Mozart and Senna are among the natives) as I very much appreciate their charisma, pioneer spirit, leadership, intelligence, dependableness, romanticism and mystery, but also because it's my "Road Companion", the Sign of the Hour of birth (11 p.m. to 1 a.m.). Their rough equivalent in Classical Astrology is Sagittarius, although I believe they’re indeed stronger than those. Just think about cartoons and toys: Super Rat, Speedy Gonzalez, and my two beloved Jerry and Topo Giggio.

Jerry is the “supreme mouse” symbol: he’s cute, he’s fast, he’s smart, he’s generous, but (poor cat Tom!) he’s also un-tamable and always has his way.

Giggio is very mousy: he sings, he dances, he’s so sweet you want to take him home, if you’re a girl, I mean, as he’s a “girls mouse”. But usually they are portrayed as very masculine; just check the other three.

The Chinese see the Rat/Mouse as a lucky charm, good for business and for gambling. But this Sign can also be obsessed to a point where they’ll hurt everyone around them, if they stand in their way. In the warehouse, the Rat has to be careful not to put matter over mind. He must find the right balance to feel good.

So, this year, we all should start anew and be positive and hard-working about our goals in life. For that we need to concentrate our efforts, yet avoiding being obstinate. Whatever they are, the Rat/Mouse will be already there when we reach them.

Happy New Year!
