Star Wars 8: Joyride to a crash

As nobody reads my blogs (hihihi) no problem with spoilers.
I watched it in the first public session in Lisbon, full room, popcorn fans cheering. Not my thing, but it was not unpleasant. They liked it; so did I; with one exception: the end.
With Luke dead and Carrie dead, and Anakin/Vader absent, where do we go from here? That is the real knot to be untied in Episode 9, which should be under Leia’s command. Therefore, when Carrie died, why didn’t they keep Luke alive? Unless, at long last (I wish upon a star!) the owner of the broken light saber is taking his rightful place in this trilogy...
As for the rest, it is a well done movie, with plenty of fireworks and special effects, but also with a story to be told, which was the great flaw in Episode 7, and Mark Hamill delivers his best performance ever. It’s so nice to have Luke back !
Also the tension between Kylo and Rey is full of eroticism, which was already felt in the previous Episode, and sparks are flying. If this wasn’t a Disney film, a good way of ending the war would be for them to get a room. I particularly loved that dark two-times a Prince saying to her: You are nothing. But not to me.
Well, she didn’t buy it, and good for her, for all he cares about is power. All in all, his best move was his promotion. How I wish changes like that could happen in real life…
Oscar Isaac and Laura Dern also shine (her hair and outfit are splendorous!); Canto Bight Casino is more enlightening than any previous Cantinaporgs turned out to be funny catlike birds shouting like crows; and lovely BB 8 this time is a bit over the top: it almost does everything by himself.

Conclusion: Contrary to what has been whispered by many, Star Wars 8 is not at all dark. There to be seen is the shattering light of the truth that lies beneath certainties, very hard to face, but the only way to be free from illusions. In fact, this is the third of Luke's Jedi lessons, not mentioned in the film as such, happening in the confront between Kylo and Luke, when the latter proves the other is delusional.
Just like Episode 3, Episode 8 shows that the way to darkness is paved with good intentions, strong fear and misplaced faith. Very educational for children and a good reflection for adults. For me, all in it is extremely familiar, and I'm glad it is so.
I'm aware many scenes were deleted, but a movie is a director's choice. I'll write about this after watching them on DVD. Even so, SW8 is much better than SW7. Let's concentrate now on putting in SW9 what is really needed to end the Skywalker saga with a Bang.
The Last Jedi will get a lot of fairly earned money all over the world. My compliments to the cast, crew and suits who made it possible. It is good to see such good piece of cinema dedicated to the memory of Carrie Fisher. Yet, this is not enough to truly honour her, if whoever got her killed  is not  punished. Hopefully, that can and should be done, because reality beats fiction all the time, believe me.
