As the Solstice draws near, as promised, here's my appraisal of the definitive version of the film. It lasts for three hours and a half and has got a Intermission, as in the old days. There's a very short Introduction by Oliver Stone and that's it: the film occupies both discs. If you're looking for Special Features, you'll have to buy the two earlier 'cuts'. (My appraisal of the second version, Alexandre, por Oliver Stone, in Portuguese, is posted on the 4th November 2005).
But, if you want to watch the film, this is the version to buy: it's complete (scenes, music, narration) and it makes sense, at last. Now the story is coherent, and Stone's vision of Alexander a bit more accurate than before.
Yet, it's his vision, very fictional and very personal. It's not my Alexander and certainly it's not the real Alexander; but, all in all, the viewer will have a more positive than negative experience, an occurrence that didn't happen with the previous versions. Therefore, it was worth making. And that's the best compliment it can get from me.
