A basket case

So it came to pass that Alexander was having an audience with Persian dignitaries, when it was brought to him a basket full of fresh fish. He was pleased with it and ordered it was sent to Hephestion, who was not present at the time.
Watching this, a Satrap, like so many others Alexander was not acquainted with, presumed he was as good as the King's friends and could behave accordingly and started laughing. The King inquired why, and the Satrap declared: No Persian King would have ever offered such an unworthy gift.
Alexander turned to him smiling and said: Well, I don't like to scare my friends by sending them a basket with the head of a Satrap.
The Satrap and his entourage never again tried to play that kind of music to Alexander. Henceforth, they kept quiet and at distance, treating him with due respect all the time.
Amen!!!
P.S. Satraps are the Persian equivalent to Dukes, Counts or other high-ranking noblemen, who were direct servants of the King.
